An overview of the new Oklahoma initiative regarding work ready communities and the role in HR in the process of obtaining the WRC certification.
About Jeane Burruss
Jeane Burruss is the Project Manager for the Office of Workforce Solutions of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce and her primary responsibility is staff to the Governor’s Council for Workforce and Economic Development.
She also provides support to Governance and Communications teams of the council and lead staff to the State Youth Council. In addition, she is responsible for communications and is the system liaison and coordinator for the Public Awareness and Outreach Team comprised of representatives from the multiple partners who make up Oklahoma’s Workforce and Economic Development System.
Her interaction with the local service providers and state agency leaders was a springboard to her role as communications liaison which proved her to be an advocate for system-building efforts.
Serving as support to the Governor’s Council for Workforce and Economic Development since its commencement, she has been involved in the initiative to credential Oklahoma’s workforce which produced Oklahoma’s Career Readiness Certificat
About Kirk Martin
Kirk Martin is a native of Tulsa and a member of the Osage Nation. At Oklahoma State University, he squeezed all his undergraduate work into five years, majoring in English and history with a minor in philosophy. Nevertheless, he found gainful employment.
Kirk began his public service career in 1986 and, since 1991, he has worked for the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. During that time, he has been a marketing specialist; an industrial recruiter; a Regional Director in two regions; and the head of research, economic analysis, & information management. Currently, he is Director of Programs in the Community Development division, where his responsibilities include planning, performance analysis, and marketing.
Prior to joining the Department of Commerce, he worked for Lieutenant Governor Robert S. Kerr III and Governor David Walters (where, for a brief time, he shared an office with Oscar Jackson).
Kirk stays active in his community through a number of local and national nonprofit groups.
About Jo Richter
Jo Richter is a Program Manager for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission in Chickasha Oklahoma. She has two grown children who added two more children to her by marriage, and then went on to have four grandchildren who are truly gifts.
She has her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and her Masters in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma. She is the president-elect for the Southern Oklahoma Human Resource Management group. She volunteers in her community helping abused women establish new lives so they and their children can be safe.
